In Flaine is er FIS ski cross. Ik had er nog nooit van gehoord maar o de website staat:
Ski Cross, how does it work ?
Inspired by motocross, Ski Cross starts with a race line up of 4 to 6 competitors. Over a descent which lasts for approximately one minute, racers tackle moguls, jumps and banks.
During the race, competitors strive to over take other racers and take the lead. Physical contact and risk taking are very much a part of the competition.
Ski Cross requires both technical qualities and ski ability. Group starts demand a good standard of both physical and mental capability as racers often find themselves quite literally, shoulder to shoulder.
From each qualifying stage, the two fastest competitors are put through to the next round, as per a direct elimination process.
Ski cross is an increasingly popular sport and the fan base is continuously growing. Today many skiers seeking new challenges and thrills are turning to Ski Cross.
Like all sporting disciplines, Ski Cross is associated with outstanding personal achievement, competitiveness and respect.
To the world of freestyle snow sports, Ski Cross brings a modern edge, a rebellious element and great exhibitionism. However, all this remains in keeping with the most traditional values such as technique and the purity of skiing.
Ski cross is olympic since december 2006 and will be in Vancouver in 2010.
